Hello! We would like to introduce ourselves. We are Kelly and Jason, college sweethearts and native Texans that love interior design, visiting new places, and spending time with friends and family. A little about us: when Kelly isn’t busy with her real estate career, she’s busy driving our two kids to sports and dance class, shopping with friends, planning parties and charity events, and spending more time that she’d like to admit on Facebook and Pinterest. Jason is in the service business and loves finding new restaurants, Texas football, golfing, and lazy days tubing the river.

How did the Speakeasy Resorts come about? We enjoy traveling, and when Covid hit in 2020, we had several international trips cancelled due to travel restrictions. We decided to do a staycation at a nearby vacation rental with a few good friends and ended up having such a great time that we started dreaming about opening our own luxury vacation rental. We loved the idea of an exclusive, resort-like getaway that you could drive to instead of spending hours in an airport to fly to an international resort.

We knew we wanted to build something modern, stylish, unique, and large enough to accommodate groups of friends or families. Our ideal location would be away from the hustle and bustle near a lake or river, with beautiful scenery, fun activities, and friendly people. Concan was at the top of our list, and we were blessed to stumble across the perfect hilltop lot with breathtaking views of the surrounding hillside and the Frio River Valley. We enlisted the help of acclaimed designer Raul Saldivar to draw up the plans for our dream home. He did not disappoint! From the custom firepit sunken in the middle of the infinity pool to the 22” glass accordion doors to take advantage of the panoramic views, from the 3 levels of outdoor living space to the modern floating staircase, he came up with a magical, amazing design.

In 2021, we began construction on the Highball. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to build a luxury home from start to finish from 1 ½ hours away, but it is not for the faint of heart. We loved that our home would be on the top of a hill, but that hilly terrain meant we had to get creative to incorporate the slope of the lot into our plans. Every week was a new adventure, with Covid-related supply chain issues, a pool company that thought the drop in the back was 12 inches instead of 12 feet, backordered furniture, trouble getting the construction materials up the hill, a survey mistake that caused us to have to move the garage and driveway, a drought that prevented us from filling the pool, and other snafus. But it was all worth it in the end—our new vacation home was everything we dreamed of and more.

The Highball opened in September 2022, and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. Our first guests have been wonderful, and so far we’ve had nothing but rave reviews. We found 2 great lots within walking distance of Magers Crossing, a popular spot on the Frio River, and started planning our next projects. The designs are in the works and we will start construction on two more Texas Hill Country luxury vacation rentals in the spring of 2023.
