Fall is the perfect time to visit the Frio River area. With the summer crowds gone, you can truly enjoy the tranquility of the crystal clear river. Fall is a great time to take advantage of everything the area has to offer, with fun events, fall foliage, local attractions, and lower rates for our luxe accommodations. Here are our favorite things about the area during the Fall.

The Frio River

It’s still warm enough to get one last tubing trip in, and the river is flowing great this year. Fall is also my favorite time to kayak and fish in the river. Contact Josh’s Frio River Outfitters or Andy’s on River Road for kayak or tube rentals that can pick up/drop off to our resorts.

Nearby Parks

We are near Garner State Park and Lost Maples State Nature Area, which have stunning fall foliage, geocaching, hiking, and more. The new Bushong Mountain Park also just opened up with miles of hiking and biking trails. We are excited about the upcoming Bear Creek State Park that will be opening down the street from the Moonshine.

Local Attractions

Concan, Leakey, and the surrounding areas have tons of fun things to do in the fall. Hill Country Adventures offers local nature tours and campfire storytelling. Other local attractions include off-roading at Concan Adventure Trails, golfing with an amazing Hill Country backdrop at Frio Valley Ranch, and take advantage of some of the state’s best hunting. The Twisted Sisters is gorgeous nearby scenic drive that twists and turns through an area that has been called “the Swiss Alps of Texas.”

Fall Events

Experience an unforgettable weekend of live country music under the stars at Songs on the Frio on November 7-9. The intimate showcase features hit songwriters behind the music of George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, and many more. Other fun fall events include Smoke Show on the Frio on Nov. 14-16, Fall on the Frio BBQ Cookoff on Oct. 3-4, and Frio Star Fest on Sept. 20.
